The Weather Station at Pitsford School offers pupils a unique opportunity to be involved with the running of a fully operating weather station – a real bonus for Geography students and those interested in meteorology.
The Weather Station is renowned throughout the county and beyond. It was conceived as a long-running community service project by Sixth Form pupils in 1998. Over the years it has grown and now provides daily and monthly weather reports to hundreds of individuals, farmers, companies and organisations across the county.
The station produces a publication each month, Monthly Weather Report, which is taken by the British Library as well as local libraries across the county. Sixth Form pupils are still responsible for taking weather readings regularly each morning and their work in the weather station counts towards their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
In recent years the station has been featured on local TV – both BBC and ITV, local radio and has been commissioned to provide tailored forecasts for some big companies including Costains during the construction of the Silverstone by-pass and by Mercedes. The Weather Station is a regular, almost daily, contributor to newspaper articles across the county.
