The afternoon kicked off with what looked like a very even game between The Perse and Felsted as Pitsford watched on the 1st half in an attempt to size up to opposition. In this game the Perse School edged a good contest to win by one score.

After warming up during the second half of the game, Pitsford were eager to get out and play, their first opponents of the day: Perse.

It wasn't a good start with Pitsford unable to gain any ground at the first and the Perse displaying a resolute defence. Perse soon took advantage of this in the game and dove over for the first score. This seemed to ignite Pitsford who upped their pressure in defence, this paid immediate dividends as Elliott P charged down a clearance kick before controlling the ball to score, 5-5.

The perse built pressure again and with some good offloading, caught the Pitsford defence 'bunched up'. Some slick handling by the home side moved it around, over the Pitsford line for another score.

Half time 10-5 to Perse.

Pitsford with some real determination weren't going to let the game slip away. They immediately rallied with the team lifted by some strong ball running from several players who were repeatedly driving forward. A real strength and somewhat a different story to last week, was now a powerful scrum which was driving forwards and becoming a good step into the game.

This forward momentum from the pack allowed the backs to come into the game even more, with firstly Elliott P now in a bit of space, grubber kicking through to skilfully collect and score to level the scores at 10-10.

Next up on the Pitsford score sheet was Andrew C who had been showing good distribution skills of the back of the forwards pressure. He now saw an opportunity and dashed through a gap in the defence, showing good strength to plough over the line giving Pitsford a narrow and delicate lead of 15-10.

Perse then repeatedly pushed back for the equalising score as Pitsford tried hard to hold firm. As Perse moved again in attack, a turnover gave Pitsford full back Fabian P a chance to break up the field, speeding around the covering tacklers to race home for a final score of the game.

This was probably the best performance the team have turned in to date - it was excellent in all aspects; scrummage, rucking and maybe most importantly team spirit. A real team effort to come from behind to win, with the whole squad playing a big part in the game.

Final score 20-10

There were several contenders for the Man of the Match award. This went to Charlie J the skippers performance just about earnt it over very stiff competition.

Now flying high from that performance, it was no time to rest and on to the second fixture against Felsted School who had travelled in from Essex.

Felsted seemed to catch Pitsford asleep, maybe still caught up in the last match, reacting very slowly to the referee and to the opposition who were expertly and incisively moving the ball around the field.

Pitsford were 10-0 down in no time. They tried to take a minute to re-group and sure up their tackling but it was to no avail with Felsted now producing some fantastic Rugby, zipping the ball about the field at rate where Pitsford were left chasing.

The brightest spark for Pitsford at this point was Fabian P who made some fearless tackles - at points he was getting up and making two or three in a row.

It wasn't enough though with Felsted again rising their game. It was fantastic Rugby to watch at points and made for a strange afternoon in terms of results, with the team that had earlier lost to Perse (and despite a better second half performance from Pitsford) going on to beat us with a final score of 35-0.
