On the last day of the Spring Term, Pitsford School's Junior Drama Club presented a superb production of The Wizard of Oz.
The modern take on it was due to the expert writing of Junior School teacher, Mrs Calnan, substituting computers for the Tin Man, a model for the Scarecrow, James Potter (Harry's forgotten brother), as the Wizard, and Minions for the Munchkins, (not to mention the meerkat!)
Other well-known characters had not been forgotten, though: Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion and the Wicked Witch of the West kept the audience focused on the original plot. Despite the small cast, this really was an excellent performance, bringing both tears of laughter and sadness as the children captured the essence of the original work and the characters finally achieved their goals - which they had in their grasp all along!
A huge thank you to Mrs Calnan and especially to the children who worked so hard.
